Umbrel Community Guidelines

Umbrel Community is a friendly place for open discussions and to help each other get the most out of Umbrel. Please follow these guidelines to make this a community where all members feel welcomed to participate.

Help us show respect to all

Most discussions are powered by other community members just like you, and not by Umbrel. Please consider this when you post.

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction
  • Using all capital letters, bold fonts, or emphasized words, which may be perceived negatively

Everyone should feel comfortable participating in discussions, regardless of their skill, knowledge, or expertise. So please be kind and don’t belittle other members or pick a fight.

Help others help you

When you post a question, make sure that it is clear. Include as many details as you can, and do your best to post in the appropriate category.

Select a descriptive and concise title for your post. Thank members who point you in the right direction. If you find the right answer, please mark its post as the solution by clicking the “solution” button on it.

Flag bad behavior

When you see bad behavior, don’t reply. It encourages the bad behavior by acknowledging it, consumes your energy, and wastes everyone’s time. Just flag it. If enough flags accrue, action will be taken, either automatically or with moderator intervention.

If you come across advertisements or self-promotions, please flag them too. In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason at any time. Moderators do not preview new posts; the moderators and site operators take no responsibility for any content posted by the community.

Powered by you

This site is operated by your friendly local staff and you, the community. If you have any further questions about how things should work here, open a new topic in the general category. If there’s a critical or urgent issue that can’t be handled by a meta topic or flag, contact us via the staff page.
